Valentine’s Day is a great time to focus on some creative writing prompts with your young writer. We’ve put together some simple and fun ideas to get you started during the month of February. So here you go our selection of FREE fun Valentine Writing Prompts for you to share with your kids.

Valentine’s Day Writing Prompts

We’ve put together 10 simple Valentine’s day free writing prompts that you and your kids can use whether they are in first grade or 5th. Each of these is a fun writing prompt to encourage your kids to improve their writing skills as you celebrate this special day together. These creative writing ideas are fantastic for including in your morning work or as a daily activity to encourage even the most reluctant writer to do a little. So let’s get your kids’ creative juices flowing, share some big emotions this month, and enjoy writing using these 10 Valentine’s day prompts.

What Are Writing Prompts?

Writing prompts are a great way to get your kids writing consistently and can easily be used with different levels of writing skills and grade levels. From your youngest and you sitting and using them to write together, to older kids keeping a creative writing journal to help improve their descriptive writing and the creative writing process. Some of them are simple and short like a poem or the journal prompts others can be used as a story idea.

How long do these writing activities take?

You can determine this some are very quick and others may take longer. Combine them with other writing activities on a regular basis and you will be able to support your child with creative writing in the long term.

Valentine’s Writing Prompts

We’ve put together a list and a free printable pdf file for you to download, print, and use with your kids as a simple writing activity per day in the lead-up and on Valentine’s Day. We’ve even included some blank pages with the prompts at the top for your kids to write on if they wish.

  1. Write a letter to a family member telling them how much you love them.
  2. Create a short poem to show your best friends you care about them.
  3. Write some new messages for a set of candy hearts or conversation hearts.

  10. What makes the perfect Valentine gift? Describe what it would be like.
