About Rainy Day Homeschooling

Hi, I am Cerys, and if you are here because your teenager is passionate about marine science, ocean conservation, or environmental science and you want to support that seriously, you are in exactly the right place.

I hold an MSc in Wildlife Management: Conservation and Control and worked as a marine biologist, leading a community conservation project on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast with Leatherback sea turtles. Before that I studied Zoology with Marine Zoology, and before that I was a teenager who was told a career in marine biology was impossible.

I ignored that advice.

I am also a qualified secondary school science teacher, a qualified examiner, and a homeschool parent. I know what rigorous science education looks like from every angle, as a researcher, a teacher, and a parent sitting at the kitchen table trying to figure out how to give a curious teenager the education they deserve.

Rainy Day Homeschooling exists because I could not find the kind of serious, applied, hands-on science resources I wanted for my own teenagers. So I started building them.

What you will find here

Practical, rigorous, genuinely interesting science resources for teen home learners aged 11 to 18. Everything I build is rooted in real science, connected to the real world, and designed to build the kind of scientific thinking that will serve a teenager well beyond the kitchen table, whether that is at university, in the field, or anywhere else their curiosity takes them.

Current resources include a free reading list for teen marine scientists, a growing library of blog posts, and paid resource packs launching soon. Live group tutoring for iGCSE Marine and Environmental Science is also in development.

A few things about me

I live on the coast in the South East of the UK, ten minutes from the North Sea, with my two teenagers, our dog, tropical fish, two terrapins and more stick insects than I care to count.

I am scared of but completely fascinated by crabs. I will always have a book in my bag. I read everything. I have at least ten unfinished craft projects on the go at any given time and I have fully accepted this about myself.
